Scientists Gather at White House to Discuss Biological Threats

Biological scientists and research analysts convened at the White House Aug 13 as part of the Obama administration’s effort to strengthen the government’s defense against bioterrorism.

As stated in the article, three broad themes were discussed:

“Biological threats to the nation, existing international initiatives used to combat bioterrorism, and the role nongovernment organizations could play in the administration's strategy.”

The 2011 review conference for the Biological Weapons Convention was also addressed, with discussion about whether the US should readopt the principles of the treaty or suggest alternative courses of action to the agreement.
